We only collect what we need to get back to you and do good work for your business, we look after it, and we never sell it. Here's the detail.

Who we are

This website is run by Tates (registered business name Ask Tates, ABN 57 717 664 310), based in Melbourne, Australia. In this policy, "we" and "us" means Tates. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

What we collect

When you fill in our consultation form, we collect:

• your name, business name and type of business
• your email address and mobile number, and how you'd like us to contact you
• what's taking up your time and anything else you choose to tell us
• if you choose to give them: the tools you use now, your website or social media handles, how you'd like to meet and your business's suburb

The shorter "Book a chat" form on our homepage asks only for your name, email address, mobile number (if you'd like a call or a text), how you'd like us to contact you, and anything you choose to tell us. It's stored and handled the same way as the consultation form.

We also keep the emails, texts and notes from our conversations with you. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical details when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site running and secure.

Please don't send us sensitive information (such as health details) through the form. We don't need it.

Why we collect it

• to get back to you about your enquiry, by the contact method you chose
• to prepare for and arrange your consultation, including looking at your business's public information, such as your website, social media and online reviews
• if you become a client, to provide our services to you
• to protect our website and form from spam and misuse

We won't send you marketing emails or newsletters unless you've clearly asked for them, and we never sell, rent or trade your information.

Who else handles it

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run this website and our email:

• Cloudflare hosts this website, stores form enquiries in a database located in the Oceania region, checks the form for spam (Cloudflare Turnstile) and forwards our email.
• Google provides our email inbox (Gmail), where we receive a copy of each enquiry, and serves the font used on this website, which means your browser connects to Google when the page loads.

These providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. They handle it only to provide their services to us, under their own privacy and security commitments. We don't otherwise share your information unless the law requires it.

How we keep it safe

Enquiries are stored in a private database that only the Tates team can access, through a secure login. The website and form use encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

How long we keep it

If your enquiry doesn't lead to working together, we delete it, including the copy in our inbox, 12 months after you send it. If you become a client, we keep your information for as long as we work together and as long as we need to afterwards for legal and tax reasons. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner at any time.

Cookies

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics that follow you around the web. Cloudflare may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technology to keep the site secure and to run the spam check.

Seeing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Email hello@asktates.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm who you are first.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first at hello@asktates.com and we'll do our best to put it right. If you're still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
